Membership with the Lake McQueeney Ski Bees is more than just performing water ski shows. It's also about having fun and forging lifelong friendships. You get to be part of a tradition where success is measured not only by participation in the ski shows, but also by the extent of contributions we make to our community.

  • Do I have to know how to water ski to be a member?

    • No, you do not have to know how to water ski to be a member. Only half of our members actually ski. Many of our members are involved in other aspects of the production of the show. Some have no role in the show, but get involved in fundraising, concessions, or other support roles.

    • Anyone who wants to water ski with us should know how to water ski. Even though we have ski show acts available on the shoulders of our more experienced members, individuals should be able to water ski behind a boat. If simply wanting to learn how to water ski, we can direct you to a ski school or an instructor. Ski show practices are primarily for TEAM acts.  Individual water skiing skills should be practiced on your own time.  Please reach out to any board member if you have questions.

  • Are there any requirements to join?

    • Yes, for those who wish to water ski with us, we require that you be able to water ski on two skis using a standard length tow rope.

    • If you cannot water ski you may join in another capacity of our show.

    • All memberships are subject to the approval of our board of directors. Prospective adult members are subject to a background check as well, to ensure the safety of our members and the integrity of our organization.  All members over the age of 18 who volunteer in any capacity are REQUIRED to have completed the SAFESPORT online training course every year.  The course cost is included with your USA Water Ski Membership.

  • What types of memberships are available?

    • There are three levels of membership: family, single/individual, and supporting member.

    • Family memberships consist of two or more members of the same family: husband and wife or parent(s)/guardian(s) and child (children) under age 25, all living in the same household. (Children under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible adult at all club functions, including both A and B practices, at all times. Other age restrictions may apply for certain club functions.)

    • A single/individual membership is available for those age 16 or older by May 1 of the membership year in which the individual is applying.

    • Supporting memberships are for anyone wishing to financially contribute to our team.

  • How much does it cost to join?

    • There are two components of membership dues: USA Water Ski & Wake Sports dues (think insurance) and Lake McQueeney Ski Bees dues.

    • The total amount varies depending on the type of membership.

  • What is expected of members?

    • All members are expected to help during ski shows (work in SAWG sales, clean up the after shows, set up, etc). Members are also expected to participate in fundraisers (i.e. the annual golf tournament).

    • All members are required at all times to exhibit behavior and attitudes consistent with the positive image of the Lake McQueeney Ski Bees. We are ambassadors of our community. All interactions with spectators, sponsors, other teams, officials, and the general public should be done so in an acceptable manner. We treat each other with respect, compassion, and empathy. We take care of our equipment and boats as if the items belonged to each of us, individually.

    • Members are expected to know the rules and policies our organization, what we do and how we operate, the parameters for various privileges such as access to facilities, personal use of club equipment, etc.

  • What opportunities are afforded members?

    • Members who water ski have unlimited opportunities to develop and enhance water skiing skills. Some of our members have gone on to work at professional venues such as Sea World and Cypress Gardens (now LEGOLAND).

    • All members have opportunities to be involved in other aspects of the show production including boat driving, riding, sound crew, dock/equipment crew, cast member, and costume design. Other opportunities exist in the areas of SWAG sales, photography, videography, elected office, committee membership, and committee chairmanship.

  • Are there any restrictions on who can become a member?

    • We welcome applications from anyone and everyone who is interested in membership. We offer equal membership opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, or gender.

    • One of the only factors that may prevent a person from becoming a member is a serious crime or pattern of crimes that could potentially endanger our members or harm the image of the The Lake McQueeney Ski Bees.

    • All prospective adult members are subject to a background check. We reserve the right to refuse membership to anyone as a result of such a background check.

  • Who can I contact if I have other membership questions?

  • Interested in usage of the jump ramp on Lake McQueeney?

    • Please email our secretary for jump agreement forms and additional insurance requirements.
